FAQs

How will I know if therapy is right for me?

There are many reasons people choose to meet with a therapist. Most people go to therapists for support as they deal with difficult emotions and situations. An intro call is a great way to learn more about therapy and if Healing Journey is a good fit for you.

This Good Therapy Article offers more information about the benefits of therapy and if it’s a good option for you.

What can I expect during the first session?

The initial visit (clinical assessment) will give you and your therapist a chance to get to know each other. Your therapist will review important paperwork and policies with you. You can expect questions about your background and goals.Your therapist will use this session to develop a treatment plan. You can also bring any questions and information that you find helpful to this session.

How often will I have to go for therapy and for how long?

Most clients attend 60-minute sessions once a week. Some may switch to meeting every two weeks or monthly depending on their progress. Clients are encouraged to talk with their therapist about their progress and session frequency at any time.

Is everything we talk about in therapy kept confidential?

Trust is an important aspect of the therapeutic relationship. Your confidentiality is of utmost importance for maintaining this trust. however, there are times when your therapist is legally and ethically required to release information to a necessary entity:

  1. If you may be a danger to yourself or to another identified person or persons

  2. If there is suspicion of abuse of any child under the age of 18 (this includes the involvement of children under the age of 18 in pornography or sexually explicit materials)

  3. If there is suspicion of abuse of any dependent and/or elder adult

  4. By order of a judge or at request of a subpoena

Please also note that if you choose to use your insurance for payment or reimbursement, your insurance company will be able to access your treatment records.
